Application module: Schematic element

1 Scope

This part of ISO 10303 specifies the application module Schematic element. The following are within the scope of this part of ISO 10303:

• the distinction between:

  • a schematic element definition, which can be used within many different assemblies of schematic elements; or
  • a particular usage, or occurrence, of a schematic element definition within a particular assembly of schematic elements;

• the explicit definition of a schematic element by direct reference to a detailed specification of the patches of colour, shading or texture;

  NOTE 1   This capability is provided by the referenced Draughting_annotation application module.

• the implicit definition of a schematic element by:

  • a derivation from an other schematic element definition; or
  • its usage relationships with schematic element occurrences.

• composition relationships between schematic element occurrences;

• connection relationships between schematic element occurrences;

• the specification of the nature of a schematic element occurrence by means of a subset relationship with a schematic element definition.

The following are outside the scope of this part of ISO 10303:

• a library of schematic element definitions (i.e. a symbol library);

  NOTE 2   A library of schematic element definitions is within the scope of the Schematic_element_library application module.

• the relationship between a schematic element and the thing that it stands for.

  NOTE 3   The relationship between a schematic element and a product or activity that it stands for is within the scope of the Symbolization_by_schematic_element application module.
